- OK, I admit it. My MODEM is old, really old. But I am looking for a
- new one. What I'd like to know is, what does a "Voice MODEM" do? Can
- it tell the difference between incoming calls as to whether it is
- voice, MODEM, or fax? Could I for instance, program the MODEM to
- answer whenever another MODEM calls it? What I was hoping to do was
- leave my home computer on (just about) all the time and whenever I
- take my laptop somewhere and realize that I need a file that I left on
- my computer, I could just call it and retrieve that file, yet not have
- the computer answer all of the incoming voice calls. Is this even
- possible? Or do I specifically have to tell my computer to answer
- *ALL* calls that come in, perhaps before I leave? I understand that
- if I do something like that, the computer would also act as my
- answering machine (or is that not true)? If all of this is true, is
- it really working well for anyone out there? Do you have any
- suggestions that may make this easier? I suppose I should worry about
- security if I do something like that. What is a good way to set that
- up?
